Every year around this time we make a promise to ourselves. I’m going to lose 50lbs or something like this year I’ll learn a new language! The reality is that while we commit to this goal for the first bit of the year, we eventually fall off. The result, by year end is regret and disappointment in oneself. It’s not that you can’t do it, it’s that our New Years Resolutions are generally the wrong type of changes to make. Instead, set yourself up for success with these resolutions you can actually stick with. Small changes are the stepping stone to major success.

New Year’s Resolutions: Drink More Water

One of the easiest things to commit to is drinking more water. The reality is our bodies already crave it and it helps our bodies repair themselves. Giving up soda, or cutting back on alcohol can be difficult. But, it’s easier to do something than it is to quit something. The more water you drink the less soda/alcohol you’ll consume.

New Year’s Resolutions: Walk More than You Normally Do

Rather than trying to lose weight, focus on doing something more. In this case, adding some more walking to your daily routine. It can be as simple as getting coffee from a further location or walking around the block from time to time. You may just see big results from this small action.

New Year’s Resolutions: Read a Couple Books

We read far less than we once did thanks to the world of streaming video and video games. But, reading does far more for the brain. Even if you can only commit to reading 12 books a year, that’s 12 books you might not have read otherwise. As an added benefit, you may just find that reading ignites a new passion in your mind! Give it a shot and see!

New Year’s Resolutions: Save Some Money

We could all serve to save a little bit more money than we usually do. Again, thinking of those small things – if you ever have change lying around, put it into a jar for savings. Check on your insurance provider and see if you can save money on your premiums. Consider getting a quote from us to see what you might be able to save. Instead of ordering takeout, throw a meal together and immediately transfer the takeout money into your savings. You’ll come to year end shocked at how much you have saved.

New Year’s Resolutions: Share Your Successes

We have a tendency to horde our successes instead of celebrating them. Perhaps it’s because we interpret it as boasting or bragging, but the reality is, success SHOULD be congratulated. Your friends and family want to see you doing well, so showing them your hard work is paying off should inspire their own efforts. At the same time, when someone shares good news – celebrate their achievement. The world could use more success, and it starts with us.
