Everyone would like to save a little more on his or her insurance, right? At isure, we do all of your insurance shopping for you to find the best quote, so you can know you are getting the best deal out there. But here is our insurance checklist with top-secret tricks to help you save even MORE on your insurance.

Step 1: Bundle your policies together

If your home or condo and auto insurance policies are with the same insurer, bundling them together in one policy is one of the most efficient ways to cut down your insurance costs. You can also bundle other policies, such as tenant, boat, or cottage insurance.

Step 2: Increase your deductible

By agreeing to pay more out-of-pocket in the event of an insurance claim, you will lower your monthly premium. Just ensure that you can afford your deductible if you do need to make a claim.

Step 3: Pay your premium annually

This cuts out costs when your insurer charges financing or administrative fees. Again, make sure you can afford a lump sum payment.

Step 4: Talk to your broker about other discounts

There are plenty of insurance discounts out there; you just need to ask your broker! For example, if you don’t smoke, you could save on your home insurance. Similarly, you can often get a discount on your auto insurance if you have taken a driver’s course or have more safety features in your car.

Step 5: Save as you drive with telematics insurance

Telematics insurance, or usage-based insurance, is quickly becoming a great way to save on auto insurance. Here’s how it works: you can prove to your insurer that you are a safe driver with good habits by installing a device in your vehicle that tracks the driver’s braking, cornering, speed and overall driving habits. Therefore, you could be eligible for a lower premium. This is a great option for drivers who need insurance but are having trouble acquiring it.

Step 6: Consider the insurance impact of your major life decisions

We don’t mean that insurance should take over your life, but as your life changes as you get married, move, and buy new cars, your insurance does too. Notify your insurance broker about your major life changes because you may see it impact your premiums.

Call your broker directly or call us toll-free at 1-877-514-7873 or email at bsure@isure.ca to make your savings happen.
