Oscar Predictions for Movies/Acting

Let’s start with the biggest categories. The reason why everyone is watching: BEST movies and acting. The Oscar predictions you’ll need include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. When making your predictions it’s important to consider all aspects of a movie. While you may think that Best Actor is only about the actor, it’s  about the entire movie. The film (editing/story/sound) enables that actor to ascend further than his or her talent level. There’s also some outside influences that you need to consider. Those are the political climate as well as the history of the actor/actress/director. Sometimes the underdog get’s a bit of a boost, while current political strife has some impact.

Best Picture Oscar Predictions

The nominees this year are La La Land, Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Arrival, Lion, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water and Fences. On their own they are all exceptional films. This year is likely to be a toss up between La La Land and Hidden Figures.

Best Director Oscar Predictions

The nominees this year include Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge), Denis Villenueve (Arrival), Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea), Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) and Damien Chazelle (La La Land). Mel Gibson will not win, his reaction at the Golden Globes sealed that. Instead, the likely outcome is Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, with an outside shot of Barry Jenkin winning.

Best Actor Oscar Predictions

This year is a runaway for the best actor. The nominees include Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic), Denzel Washington (Fences) and Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge). The runaway is for Casey Affleck in one of the most depressing movies ever made. It’s still a great movie, but boy does his character makes you feel things. No contest.

Best Actress Oscar Predictions

The nominees include Emma Stone (La La Land), Natalie Portman (Jackie), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Ruth Negga (Loving). The safe money is on Emma Stone, but the film being Oscar-y definitely plays a roll. As such, Natalie Portman would be a solid pick as well – though the movie itself was a bit of a snooze.

Making Predictions in Other Categories

When it comes to supporting actor/actress, similar context to the main actor/actress is useful. That said, they usually play off of the main character, so consider that. Supporting actor is the more difficult pick, while supporting actress will likely go to Viola Davis in Fences.

Now, we COULD make predictions on the remaining categories – but we want to hear from you guys! Share your own predictions in the comments below what your own Oscar predictions are!
