Making the Most of your Morning Commute
For the average person, up to two hours per weekday are entirely wasted doing one menial task – the morning commute. Whether you spend your time in a car in bumper-to-bumper traffic, or you squeeze in on crowded public transit, it can be hard to see how to make those hours productive. Today, we’re going to run down some of the best ways to make the most out of your morning commute. Not only will you feel more productive, but you might just start to look forward to that time!
Listen to Podcasts
Listening to a podcast on your morning commute is a great way to learn new things or hear about different experiences on a range of topics. Not only will it expand your horizons, but it can also help time fly by. For an added bonus to productivity, use an app that speeds up the playback to 1.5 or 2x. You will miraculously still understand and absorb everything, but in far less time.
Learn a New Language
Your commute is a great time to learn a new language. If you’ve ever traveled to a foreign country, you know that it is far easier to pick up and remember words when exposed to them daily. Using an app that teaches you the language AND puts you in ‘simulated’ surroundings will help you learn that language faster. Et tous suite, vous serez bilingue!
Catch Up on Interesting Articles
For the public transit commuters, get the app ‘Pocket‘. What Pocket does is it allows you to save articles that you don’t have time to read right now into a digital pocket. Those articles can later be pulled up through the app for easy reading. Best of all, if your commute takes you underground into a subway system Pocket actually stores the articles locally, meaning you don’t need a data connection to load them.
Get a Massage
While sitting in traffic, why not get a nice massage in the process? A quality massage cushion can be a great way to relieve stress and put you in a great mood every single morning. The key here is to invest in a high quality product and not a cheap version that may not work effectively. You will walk into work feeling loose, relaxed and ready to be hyper-productive!
Rent a Car
Who says your morning commute has to be boring? Instead of driving the same car every day, periodically rent a different vehicle for a fresh experience. This can be especially helpful if you’re considering buying a new car and want to give it ‘true to life’ test drive. As an additional bonus, consider renting a sports car to shift your perspective completely and enjoy the ride.
Morning Commute without a Clock
Believe it or not, but one of the biggest causes of stress in the morning is the clock. If you’ve stressed yourself out on the way to work, you’re unlikely to have a productive day at work. Instead, cover up the clock in your car and hide it on your phone. You will be amazed at how much stress will be off your shoulders when you don’t feel like you’re racing the clock, which will enable you to be more effective at work.
Start a YouTube Channel
YouTube is one of the most interesting places because it allows anyone to create video content. Your morning commute might be more exciting if you’re talking to the camera and sharing your experience with an audience. Just set up some passively recording GoPros on your dash facing both ways, and edit them together for a daily ‘morning commute vlog’. You never know, maybe one day that will become your job!
