Hamilton Car Insurance Broker

Are you looking for Hamilton Car Insurance? Ontario auto insurance rates have ranked amongst the highest in all of Canada. Hamilton is seeing a resurgence as a great place to live and work. The downtown core is home to many excellent restaurants, nightlife, and colleges. As the population continues to grow and more jobs are popping up around the city, more people are driving in and from Hamilton. Since there are more drivers on the road, insurance rates will likely increase year after year, which is why you need to work with us to ensure you have the insurance rates in the city.

It’s the law for Hamilton drivers to have car insurance. These policies must include third-party liability, uninsured car coverage, direct compensation property damage, and statutory accident benefits. However, many Hamilton drivers choose to add additional coverage to their plans as well for optimal coverage.

Mandatory car insurance in Hamilton

This refers to the minimum coverage required by law in order to drive a car. This law protects you, your family and others on the road. Mandatory types of coverage in Hamilton include:

R

1. Liability

This policy will help pay for other drivers’ property and bodily injuries if you are at-fault in an accident. It may also help cover any legal fees you may incur as a result of an accident.

R

3. Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD)

This coverage will compensate you if you are injured or your car is damaged in an accident where you are not at-fault. You’ll deal directly with your insurance provider to receive compensation following your claim.

R

2. Accident Benefits Coverage

If you or the other individuals involved in the accident require medical or rehabilitative attention following the accident, this coverage will reimburse the expense. Both passengers and pedestrians will be covered.

R

4. Uninsured Automobile Coverage

Car insurance is mandatory in Canada, yet irresponsible drivers will sometimes get behind the wheel without it. This type of coverage protects you and any of your passengers if you are involved in an accident with a driver who is at-fault and is uninsured or does not have enough coverage.

Optional Car Insurance

Are you looking for car insurance in Hamilton? Some coverage types are mandatory while others are not. Our brokers at isure will discuss the types of auto insurance coverage you need and the types you can consider if you require additional protection.

Optional car insurance types in Hamilton include:

R

1. Collision insurance

Provides coverage if your vehicle is damaged in a crash, either with another vehicle or a stationary object like a tree.

R

3. Emergency Roadside Assistance

Coverage will be provided for roadside emergencies, like dead batteries, flat tires, towing or an empty gas tank.

R

5. All Perils

This type of coverage combines both collision and comprehensive, and includes additional protection if a member of your household, say, steals your vehicle.

R

2. Comprehensive coverage

Protects against losses a driver may incur due to events unrelated to driving, like theft, vandalism, environmental damage from floods or damage from an attempted burglary.

R

4. Specified Perils

Coverage will be provided for any financial losses from specific risks named in your policy. Risks may include fire, theft, explosions, or damage from hail and lightning.

Our brokers will also discuss Optional Policy Change Forms, which refer to coverage enhancements, and drivers in Hamilton can consider the following:

OPCF 20

OPCF 20: This would cover the fee of a rental car while yours is being repaired or replaced.

OPCF 27

OPCF 27: This can transfer your existing insurance to a rental car or a vehicle you borrow.

OPCF 39

OPCF 39: This would provide you with forgiveness from your insurer for your first accident claim, preventing your insurance rate from being impacted.

OPCF 43

OPCF 43: This will remove depreciation in calculating the value of your car when you settle a claim.

OPCF 49

OPCF 49: This gives you the ability to opt out of Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD) Premiums.

OPCF 28A

OPCF 28A: This will intentionally remove specific high-risk drivers in your household from receiving your coverage to help lower premiums

OPCF 44R

OPCF 44R: This protects you in the event where you’re dealing with an at-fault uninsured or inadequately insured driver.

OPCF 16 & 17

FAQs
About Hamilton Auto Insurance

What Factors Affect Hamilton Auto Insurance Rates?

Your Vehicle: Aside from the make, model, and year of your vehicle, frequency of theft, and safety rating. Certain types of vehicles tend to be a higher risk, as they are shown to be involved in more accidents than others.

Your Age And Sex: It generally follows that older people have had more years of opportunity to learn proper driving habits. Men under 25 are also statistically more prone to crashes than women of the same age, and generally receive higher premiums, but generally evens out after turning 25 years old.

Distance Travelled: The more you’re on the road, the more likely you are to get in an accident. Those who drive more will pay more than those who commute less often.

Your Driving History: If you have had a lot of traffic tickets or major accidents in your time, auto insurance will be much more expensive for you when compared to others with a clean driving record.

How You Use The Vehicle: The way you drive your vehicle, how often and your driving habits can all play a role in your insurance rate.

Your Postal Code: The more populated, urban areas in Hamilton often have a higher claim rate than rural parts. Urban residents can likely expect to pay a higher premium based on their postal code.

Why is car insurance so expensive in Hamilton?

The traffic volume in your area and the likelihood of theft and fraud are just some of the factors that will influence your car insurance rates in Hamilton. As traffic volume is so high on Highway 403, the QEW and other major roads, insurance rates are higher because there is a greater likelihood of accidents. Increased vehicle theft and fraud will also lead to higher costs, and your neighbourhood and postal code will also impact your insurance rate.

Which areas in Hamilton have the cheapest auto insurance rates?

Those who live in the Ancaster, Dundas, or Westdale areas will receive more affordable auto insurance rates. These neighbourhoods are in more affluent areas with a lower amount of daily traffic. Those who live in Stinson or the L8N postal code area will pay higher rates due to the heavy traffic along Main Street and King Street, as well as higher crime rates with low-income housing and rehab clinics. This area is more susceptible to a car theft and has even had prominent articles in the news related to this problem. For these reasons, insurance rates are a little higher with the risk of more car theft, accidents, or simply wear-and-tear within traffic-heavy areas.

How will living in Hamilton affect my car insurance rates?

Hamilton is an urban area, and this vibrant city has many growing communities, which means more cars on roads, highways, and streets. This increases the odds of car accidents, which plays a role in the rates you receive. Factors considered include theft, insurance claims, fraud and medical costs when calculating rates. Regardless of where you live, we will always provide you with the best possible rates.

Is there anything I can do to save money on Auto Insurance in Hamilton?

Maintaining a clean driving record and bundling insurance policies will save you money, as will the installation of winter tires. Increasing your deductible is another option you can consider. We can discuss this information in greater detail to help lower your rate when you give us a call!

How does car insurance work in Hamilton?

This aspect is no different from other cities in the province, and all drivers in Hamilton must have a stated minimum amount of insurance coverage to drive legally. You can choose to add more to your policy if you require additional protection.

Is car insurance cheaper in Hamilton than it is in Toronto?

Yes. Even though auto insurance rates in Hamilton tend to be on the higher side, they are still cheaper when compared to the rates in Toronto and some other cities in the province.

Hamilton Collision Reporting and Claims Process

Car accidents happen for a number of reasons: bad weather conditions, distracted driving, faulty vehicles, and sometimes, poor signage. No matter the reason, there is always a protocol to follow after an accident. This is isure’s four-step plan following an accident in Hamilton:

1. Make sure no one is injured

Car accidents vary in severity, and you won’t be able to tell the level of injury without an inquiry. Your first priority is making sure no one is hurt. If any party is injured, call medical services immediately. You can proceed with other steps only after making sure everyone else is safe.

2. Photograph and document

Taking pictures while still on scene is a way to accurately document for both the insurance company and the collision center. There are four main things to document with photos and in writing:

  • The damage

Take as many pictures of the damage on-scene as possible. This provides an illustration of the events and the aftermath of how they unfolded. This can also document what damage there is as a direct result of the accident.

  • Licence

Take note of the other person’s driver’s licence information. You need their licence number, name and address. You can also exchange contact information to keep in contact with regards to insurance proceedings and any other issues.

  • Insurance

Take a photo or jot down the information of the other driver’s insurance details. You will want to get their policy number in case you can’t reach them in other ways.

  • The conditions

Make note of all the collision conditions. Were the roads wet? Where did the accident take place, and at what time? Each of these pieces of information can help piece together information for both insurances, as well as city authorities.

3. Report over $2,000 to police

Not all damages need to be reported to the police the same way they need to be to the collision center. With that being said, any damages over $2,000 combined must be reported to authorities within the 24-hour window following the accident. Failure to do so could result in large fines and other serious repercussions.

4. Report to collision center

Your third step is to call a friend or taxi to take you to the collision center and a tow truck for your vehicle. You must report to the collision center so damage can be properly documented for records and insurance. You should refrain from driving your car after it has been hit; even in cases where you think the vehicle is fine, you may still be risking your own life and the lives of others if you continue to drive. In Hamilton, there are two different collision reporting centers:

Hamilton East

2825 KING STREET EAST HAMILTON, ONTARIO L8G 1J6

Telephone: 905-560-0510

Fax: 905-560-0509

Fax: (905) 385-2567

Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

What does insurance cover?

Following the process, you will be given funds from your insurer, if required. The funds you receive can cover repairs or reimbursements, rentals, tow trucks, taxis, and other costs. The exact coverage you receive depends on your policy and if you were deemed at fault.
