Get the most affordable Auto Insurance Rates in Waterloo

Ontario auto insurance rates have ranked amongst the highest in all of Canada. As Waterloo is home to many universities and colleges, there are a lot of young drivers going to and from campuses on a daily basis. Since younger people are generally less experienced than older drivers, they are sometimes subjected to higher auto insurance rates.
It’s the law for Waterloo drivers to have car insurance. These policies must include third-party liability, uninsured car coverage, direct compensation property damage, and statutory accident benefits. However, many Waterloo drivers choose to add additional coverage to their plans as well for optimal coverage.

FAQ’s
About Waterloo Auto Insurance

What are the factors that affect auto insurance in Waterloo?

Vehicle Type: The year, make and model of your vehicle will be used by auto insurance companies when they calculate the premium.

How You Use The Vehicle: The way you drive your vehicle, how often and your driving habits can all play a role in your insurance rate.

Your Postal Code: The more populated, urban areas in Waterloo often have a higher claim rate than rural parts. Urban residents can likely expect to pay a higher premium based on their postal code.

Your Age: Drivers with more experience on the road often pay much lower auto insurance premiums than newer and younger drivers.

Is it possible to lower the cost of your car insurance in Waterloo?

Anti-theft Devices: Any tools or equipment that prevents theft or vandalism to your vehicle can lower your insurance premium.

Winter Tires: The winters in Waterloo can be relentless, especially when you need to drive to school or work in the snow every day! Not only is it vital for your safety to have winter tires installed during the snowy months, but you are often eligible for discounts on insurance premiums when your car has winter tires.

Waterloo Collision Reporting and Claims Process

Car accidents happen every day, but are you prepared? Car insurance is required in Ontario for all drivers to help pay for costs associated with vehicular accidents. Part of being prepared means knowing what to do if you ever find yourself in an accident. This is isure’s post-collision guide for residents of the Kitchener/Waterloo area.

1. Medical attention

Injuries that come from accidents can be very serious. Ensuring everyone involved is safe and uninjured is your first priority. If anyone is injured or believed to be injured, call 911 immediately. Only once anyone who needs medical attention receives it can you carry on with the rest of our process.

2. Photos

The second thing you should do after an accident has occurred is take photos and create records. Documenting damage and the parties involved are critical components to successfully reporting your accident and should include records of:

  • Damages

Take photos of the damage done to each vehicle following the accident. These images act as a certain record of what was the fault of the accident. It can also prevent claims of false “additional” damage.

  • Licenses

A driver’s license has a large amount of personal information on it, which can be very helpful when reporting an accident. A driver’s license photo can also serve as proof that you stayed on-scene following the accident. Information on a driver’s license, like name, address, and license number, are all important if you are going to report the accident.

  • Insurance

A picture of your insurance is used to file claims. If you do not obtain an image of the other drivers’ insurance, you will need to note down their provider and insurance policy number. At this point, be sure you have the make, model, and year of the other car (or cars) involved.

  • Conditions

Take a look at your surroundings – where are you? What time of day is it? What is the weather like? Make a note of all the potentially useful information you can. This might make your insurance process easier as it paints a very visual picture for insurance companies and police.

3. When you need to report

You have to report any accident that will cost over $2,000 in combined damages to repair. $2,000 is not allotted for each vehicle, it entails the total for all involved. If the accident appears to be over $2,000 worth, you must report it to a collision centre within 24 hours, by law.

4. Where to report

A collision centre serves as a middle man between police and insurance companies. Collision centres will take all the information from each driver involved and put together a record of the accident. You can then file a claim with your insurance company. When it comes to travelling to the collision centre after an accident, you should avoid driving there yourself. Driving a car that was just in an accident can be really dangerous, even if the car appears fine. Call a friend to drive you to the closest collision centre and a tow truck to take your car there. If the collision centre is closed, you should go as soon as possible the following day.

What insurance covers:

What costs your specific policy will cover entirely depends on what your insurance company covers. Each policy will likely cover repairs, while others cover expenses like tow trucks, taxis from accidents, and rental cars. Speak with your isure broker today to discuss the type of coverage you have.
