FAQ’s
About Windsor Auto Insurance
What Factors Affect Auto Insurance In Windsor?
Vehicle Type: Auto insurance companies consider the year, make, and model of your vehicle when determining your premium.
Vehicle Use: How you use your vehicle, how often you drive, and your driving habits can all influence the rate you’ll pay for insurance.
Postal Code: Urban areas in Windsor tend to have higher claim rates than rural ones. As a result, residents in more populated areas may face higher premiums based on their postal code.
Driver’s Age: Experienced drivers generally enjoy lower auto insurance premiums compared to younger or less experienced drivers.
Your Vehicle: Beyond the make, model, and year, factors such as theft frequency and safety ratings play a role. Certain vehicles are considered higher risk due to being involved in more accidents.
Age and Gender: Older drivers tend to have developed better driving habits over time. Men under 25 are statistically more likely to be in accidents than women of the same age and typically receive higher premiums, which often level out after turning 25.
Distance Travelled: The more frequently you drive, the higher your risk of accidents. Those who log more miles will generally pay higher premiums than those who drive less.
Driving History: A record of multiple traffic tickets or major accidents will result in higher auto insurance costs compared to someone with a clean driving record.
How Can You Lower The Cost Of Your Car Insurance In Windsor?
Anti-theft Devices: Installing devices or tools that help prevent vehicle theft can reduce your insurance premium.
Winter Tires: Windsor winters can be harsh, especially if you drive daily in the snow! Having winter tires not only enhances your safety during the colder months but also makes you eligible for insurance premium discounts when they’re installed.
Windsor Collision Reporting and Claims Process
1. Make sure everyone is safe
When anyone gets into an accident, the very first priority is to make sure everyone is healthy and okay. Accidents can have life-long impacts on a person’s abilities, both mentally and physically. Damage may be reduced by seeking medical attention as soon as possible. Call 911 immediately if there are suspected or obvious injuries.
2. Take pictures
Pictures are a good way to capture indescribable information. During the aftermath of accidents, it can be hard to accurately describe the scene without help from images. In particular, there are four things you should take pictures of following an accident:
- Damages
Take pictures of any and all damages that happen to any of the vehicles involved. By taking pictures, you document an unbiased record of the accident’s aftermath. Sometimes, a series of images provides clarity where the truth was foggy, so take as many pictures as you can, both close up and from a distance.
- License
The front of a driver’s license provides a lot of the information you need when it comes to filing a report. You can also use this time to ask for a solid contact number for future communication, if necessary.
- Insurance
Taking a photo of the other driver’s insurance information is a great way to efficiently exchange the needed information for filing. On the insurance slip, you have the name of the provider and their policy number, along with the make, year, and model of their car.
- Conditions
You can record the conditions that contributed to the accident, like weather, location, time, and date that the accident took place.
3. When to report
You need to report any accident that resulted in over $2,000 of damage to the police within 24 hours via a collision centre. Report any accident that you want to have covered by insurance, even if the damage is below $2,000. In Windsor, there is only one collision centre, and it’s open from Monday to Friday (details below). You will need to file a report as soon as you can after the accident.
4. How and where to report
To get to the collision centre, take either a taxi or have a friend drive you. Driving after an accident is not recommended, and can result in even more damage to the car or even another accident if there are invisible problems. At the collision centre, you will fill out an accident report sheet, which is then sent to the insurance companies so you can file a claim and receive funds for your repairs.

What does insurance cover?
Insurance coverage depends on the policy and the policy provider. Some providers only cover the cost of repairs and replacements, while others offer a complete policy with coverage from repairs to taxis to tows and car rentals. The other factor that determines what you will pay is whether or not you have a deductible. A deductible is an amount you pay if you get into an accident, no matter what the cost is if you get into an accident.
