Nepean Auto Insurance Broker

Ontario auto insurance rates have ranked amongst the highest in all of Canada. As Nepean is a part of Ottawa, many people commute to the city for work and leisure. Since Ottawa is one of the busiest cities in Ontario, people living in Nepean can be subjected to higher auto insurance rates. Just like every other city in Ontario, it’s the law for Nepean drivers to have car insurance. These policies must include third-party liability, uninsured car coverage, direct compensation property damage, and statutory accident benefits. However, many Nepean drivers choose to add additional coverage to their plans as well for optimal coverage.

Reporting and Claims Process

1. Look for injuries
No matter how serious it is, your priority is to address any injuries after an accident occurs. Before you can even think about reporting an accident, you need to assure everyone is safe. If anyone is in distress or needs help, call 911 immediately.
2. Photograph specifics

Taking pictures of specifics to your accident is the next step. This can simplify your reporting process and speed up a potentially long process. It also objectively records accident specifics in regards to:

  • Damages
Take pictures of all vehicles impacted by the collision. Even if you think it is not major, costs can quickly add up. Having a record is always a good idea, especially of license plate numbers and other identifying features of each car.
  • Licenses
Take a picture of the other driver’s license. This way, you can easily provide information at the collision centre. You will need their name, address, and license number. Take this time to also collect their phone number to keep in contact regarding proceedings.
  • Insurance
Taking a photo of the other insurance policy is essential to establishing a formal communication channel for the involved insurance companies. Insurance slips also offer valuable information, like the make, year, and model of each vehicle.
  • Collision conditions
Finally, record the collision conditions. Collision conditions include weather, location, and time of the accident.
3. When to report
Knowing when you need to report an accident is critical. Obviously, you may not need to report a small scratch, but if the total damage is more than $2,000, you have to report it to the collision centre within 24 hours.
4. Reporting

For Nepean residents, there are three locations that you can visit to report your accident. One in the west end, one downtown and one east of the city. Check out the addresses and hours of each location below:

West Location: 211 Huntmar Drive, Kanata

Downtown Location: 474 Elgin Street

East Location: 3343 St. Joseph Boulevard, Orleans

Hours for each location: Seven days a week from 8 am to 6 pm

Getting to a collision centre can be very easy and safe, so long as you follow the right steps. If your car was just involved in an accident worth reporting, chances are you should not drive your car to the collision centre. Instead, call a tow truck for the car and a friend or taxi for yourself. At the collision centre, a staff member will record the damages officially and then you can call your insurance company to get started with repairs.
