Pickering Auto Insurance Broker

Ontario auto insurance rates have ranked amongst the highest in all of Canada. As Pickering is very close to Toronto, many people commute to the city for work and leisure. Since Toronto is the busiest city in Ontario, people living in Pickering can be subjected to higher auto insurance rates.

Just like every other city in Ontario, it’s the law for Pickering drivers to have car insurance. These policies must include third-party liability, uninsured car coverage, direct compensation property damage, and statutory accident benefits. However, many Pickering drivers choose to add additional coverage to their plans as well for optimal coverage.

FAQ’s
About Pickering Auto Insurance

What are some factors that can reduce car insurance prices in Pickering?

You can do a few things to reduce your auto insurance premiums, including raising the deductible amount on collision and comprehensive coverage. You can also bundle your car and home insurance policies, which will allow you to qualify for a discount. Multi-car or multiple driver discounts may also be available, and we can check to see whether you qualify for such discounts.

What factors affect auto insurance in Pickering?

Vehicle Type: The year, make and model of your vehicle will be considered by auto insurance companies when calculating the premium.

Vehicle Use: The way you drive your vehicle, how often and your driving habits can all play a role in the insurance rate you will pay.

Postal Code: The more populated, urban areas in Pickering often have a higher claim rate than rural parts. Urban residents can likely expect to pay a higher premium based on their postal code.

The Driver’s Age: Drivers with more experience on the road often pay much lower auto insurance premiums than newer and younger drivers.

What do I need to know about driving in Pickering, Ontario?

The 401 is a big part of Pickering, and you may experience congestion depending on the time of day. White’s Road and Brock Road are 401 exits that serve the Pickering area, and Liverpool Road only has westbound on/off access to the 401. You will also have quick access to Highway 407.

What are some tips I should keep in mind regarding insurance and driving in Pickering?

We recommend that you avoid dangerous intersections as much as you can, and if not possible, approach with caution. Pickering Parkway, Brock Road, and Whites Road are known to be more hazardous than the rest. Avoiding these intersections, or at the very least, exercising caution while in these areas, can reduce the odds of a collision and help keep your driving record clean and claim-free. When possible, we also recommend that you carpool and use HOV lanes if you cannot take the GO Train because this can reduce your road exposure. Living near the Pickering GO station is another option to consider, which will reduce your annual commuting distance by taking the train. This reduction in your mileage and time spent on the road can result in lower rates.

What are some interesting facts about driving in Pickering?

There are several plans regarding expansions to the 401 beyond Salem Road in Ajax, which can help congestion through Pickering. Additionally, improved north-south access via the proposed Highway 412 will enhance access to the 407. It’s also interesting to note that Pickering’s frontage on Lake Ontario has a mild tilt to the North-West, unlike the GTA’s western communities.

How can I find affordable insurance in Pickering?

Contacting one of our isure insurance brokers is a great place to start because here at isure, we go above and beyond to exceed your expectations and provide you with fair rates. We will consider your needs and factor in your age, driving history, mileage, and more to determine your rate, and will always provide you with competitive rates for car insurance.

Pickering Collision Reporting and Claims Process

1. Look for any medical issues
The number one priority after an accident is making sure anyone involved is safe, which means caring for any medical issues immediately. If someone says they are in pain or appears to be injured, call 911 right away.
2. Take lots of pictures

Photos speak the truth in just about any situation. After an accident, there are four things that you (as someone involved) will want to take pictures of:

  • Damages

Take photos of the damage to prove what was the result of the accident. Accident photos can also provide information about how the accident happened. It is not enough to take images of your car alone; take photos of both your car, the other vehicles involved, and both license plates.

  • License

Take a picture of the other driver’s license, and offer yours as well. This way, you don’t need to write down as much information and with an image on your cell phone, the necessary information is less likely to get lost. While a driver’s license contains a lot of needed information, don’t forget to ask for a contact number.

  • Insurance

Insurance information needs to be provided following most accidents. When you don’t go through insurance following an incident where it was necessary, your policy may be canceled as a result. Insurance policy photos prove 1) that you have insurance, and 2) that you are willing to cooperate.

  • Conditions

Note the outdoor and road conditions that preceded the incident. Jot down the time and location that the accident took place, as well. It is always good to have more information than you need, opposed to not enough.

3. Report over $2,000 damage within 24 hours
You do not need to report every single minor accident to the police, though anything over $2,000 is required by law to be reported to a collision centre within 24 hours. In the Pickering/Whitby area, the collision centre is open seven days a week and on holidays, so there is no excuse for not getting there on time.
4. Reporting damages

Once you determine that you will need to report the accident at a collision centre, you will need to figure out how you’re going to get there. You and your car both need to show up at the collision centre so representatives can take pictures and record the damages to pass along the information to your insurance agencies. From there, you can file your claim and receive funds. Do not give your mechanic the go-ahead until you have spoken with your insurance provider.

What does insurance cover?

Insurance coverage will vary from person to person. Some drivers pay a deductible or have minimum coveragewhile others might have full coverage and/or coverage for tow trucks and taxis. Speak with your isure agent for more information about your specific coverage.
