Vehicle Use: The way you drive your vehicle, how often and your driving habits can all play a role in the insurance rate you will pay.

Postal Code: The more populated areas in Sudbury often have a higher claim rate than the rural parts. Urban residents can likely expect to pay a slightly higher premium based on their postal code.

The Driver’s Age: Drivers with less experience on the road often pay higher auto insurance premiums than older and experienced drivers.

How can you lower the cost of your car insurance in Sudbury?

Anti-theft Devices: Any equipment or tools that can help prevent theft to your vehicle can lower your insurance premium.

Sudbury Collision Reporting and Claims Process

Getting into an accident is a scary experience no one ever plans for. Being prepared for an accident is the best tool when remaining calm if it ever happens to you. This is isure’s guide to accident reporting in Sudbury:

1. Call 911 for medical emergencies

Call 911 if anyone seems to be injured or in need of medical attention. Injuries from car accidents can be extremely serious and have long-term impacts if they are not addressed properly. As a preventative measure, call for medical help even if you don’t think the injury is that serious.

2. Start making documents

There is quite a bit of information needed when you report an accident. If you collect all this information before leaving the site of an accident, you can save yourself a lot of time and potential confusion in the coming days. Start by taking photos of:

  • Damages

Document damages with a variety of pictures. Photograph everything from far away to up close, including pictures of all vehicles involved. These photos document the damage and can also tell the story of the accident without using words.

  • License

Important information, like license number, legal name, and address, can all be found on a driver’s license. These pieces of information are all necessary when you report an accident. Take a picture of the other driver’s license and allow them to take one of yours, as well. This is also when you should exchange contact information to stay in touch throughout the reporting and insurance process.

  • Insurance

You need to exchange insurance information after an accident to file a claim and to hold the others involved accountable. Each image should include the policy provider and policy number, as well as the year, make, and model of the car.

  • Specifics

Document the specifics of the accident. What was the weather like? Where, when and what are the specifics around the time of the accident? It is much better to have too much information than too little when you go to report the accident or when you speak with a claims agent.

3. When reporting is necessary

If the only damage following an accident is a paint chip, you don’t have to report it, but that means there is no accountability and you are not guaranteed to receive any money. It is best practice to always report an accident, but you are only required by law to report an accident if the damage is over $2,000 total. If the damage is substantial, a report will need to be filed at a collision centre within 24 hours of the accident.

4. How reporting works

To report an accident, you will need to visit the closest collision reporting centre. For Sudbury drivers, that location is at:

239 MONTEE PRINCIPALE, SUDBURY, P0M 1B0

Tel: (705) 983-0994

Fax: (705) 983-5724

Hours: COVID-19 HOURS: Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

To get to the collision centre, you should take a taxi or have a friend drive you. This way, you avoid driving a car that has been in an accident and has not yet had its systems tested. Your car can make its way to the collision centre by way of a tow truck. At the collision centre, a staff member will assist you when it comes to filling out an accident report sheet. You will then be able to call your insurance company and file your claim.
